Spiked strawberry rosé lemonade is a refreshing cocktail to accompany brunch, patio parties or as a casual dinner party apertíf all summer long.
Rosé season has been in full swing for a few months now and I make no secret of the fact that the much-beloved “summer water” is not my beverage of choice during the months of June, July and August.
Although there are plenty of rosé wines to drink during patio season, I’ve always preferred Sauvignon Blanc or an occasional Oregon Pinot Gris.
That is, until I discovered rosé lemonade. Spiked rosé lemonade, to be more specific.
In Chicago we have a lovely chain of local markets called Foxtrot Delivery Market. Think: your cutest local organic grocery + coffee bar + gift shop tied nicely together with an app that allows you to order anything for delivery in an hour or less. Now, there are a lot of delivery apps that claim one hour or less service, but they often lie.
Foxtrot is pretty punctual and perfect for entertaining needs that extend beyond your local Aldi or Trader Joe’s (we live above an Aldi but there are certain things you just won’t find there and gourmet cheese and artisan wines happen to be two of those things).
So when I hosted a few friends for brunch in June, I did my grocery shopping locally, but ordered our wine and a few other essentials on Foxtrot.
In case I haven’t disclosed this yet, I will tell you now: I’m a sucker for marketing. For someone who has worked in communications for a dozen years, I’m incredibly easily swayed by pretty pictures and twee lifestyle marketing that says, “If you drink this rosé your summer will be perfect too.”
Foxtrot has a category for “Punch Drunk Rose: Cocktails for a Crowd’ and even though I have never been a rosé drinker I found myself buying two bottles of Le Saint Andre Rosé and furiously Googling cocktail recipes.
As I usually do, I drew inspiration from a few different rosé cocktail recipes and eventually created my own strawberry rosé lemonade. This was a hit among my girlfriends and if even the most discerning rosé consumer will drink it, you know you have a crowd-pleaser.
- 1 cup strawberries, sliced
- 1 (750-milliliter) bottle dry rosé wine
- 3 cups lemonade
- ½ cup - 1 cup vodka
- 1 medium lemon, sliced
- 1 (12-ounce) can club soda
- Place strawberry slices in the bottom of a large pitcher and muddle with a wooden spoon. Add the rosé, lemonade, vodka and lemon slices. Top with club soda.
- Pour into 8 glasses, adding ice from the pitcher to each glass as needed.
