Contest Updates (Everybody Wins!)

Red velvet cupcakes

The past few weeks have been…. stress stress stress, blah blah blah. You know it, I’m sure. So without delving into any details that you don’t want to hear (and by you I mean I and by hear I mean type), I’ll just say that I’ve been really, really in need of some good news to fall my way.

And it did.

First…

The good PR folks at Starbucks/Tazo emailed to inform me that thanks to the enthusiasm and support of my blog readers (I always knew there had to be more than four of you) that I had won a very generous gift card to the kitchen store of my choice (I chose Sur La Table without hesitating).

It’s extravagant, it’s a humbling and I couldn’t be more excited to ditch my college-grade cookware and stock my kitchen with grown-up goods.

Second…

Remember how I told you that I have an oven that doesn’t fully open? Well, back in December, I reported said oven to my building manager and I pointed out that not only was it inconvenient, but probably a safety hazard. She basically told me to take it or leave it and here I am.

To make a long story short I have a new building manager who caught wind of my semi-functional oven and worked some magic with a measuring tape and is going to send a contractor in to slice and dice my counters and move my oven unit.

One of these days, I’ll be able to use my bottom oven rack without risking a third degree burn or a house fire. I asked him if he’d throw in a Viking Range while he’s at it…but I have a feeling he’s going to say no.

Finally…

That contest that I won?

Well, I didn’t forget that there was something in it for you, too. Since the contest ran for three posts, I tossed all of the entries into an Excel spreadsheet and let my friends at random.org choose our fate:

Nicole T. will be receiving a delightful prize package from Tazo. As a consolation to everyone else, I’ll share Nicole’s best kitchen mishap, because I think she’d want it that way.

“My favorite kitchen mishap was definitely NOT my favorite *at the time*, but it’s pretty funny in retrospect! I have just recently gotten into baking and cooking, so last year, I wanted to bake a fancy cake for my parents’ anniversary. Well, something went wrong (I still don’t know what though!) and the batter started bubbling out over the sides of the pan in the oven, so it was dripping to the bottom and literally setting on fire! The kitchen was filled with black smoke in no time, and because I was afraid to even touch the darned thing, I decided to just let it bake through and took it out when it was “done.” Yeah… it was partially saved — lopsided, but saved — and would have tasted great were it not for the smoked flavor….like a smoked ham or something.”

Come on, we’ve all been there.

Congratulations, Nicole and thank you to everyone who voted for my recipes last month!
