I love hotels. Correction: I love nice hotels. I love the friendliness of hotel bars and the comfort of luxurious hotel lobbies with tall ceilings and innovative artwork. I love sheets that feel expensive and the fact that I can jack the room’s themostat down as low as it will go and I don’t have to pay the electric bill. And if you want me to stay in a specific hotel you only need to say the words “recently redesigned.” There is nothing better than a four- or five- star hotel that has all of the special perks that make staying at a hotel feel like a complete and total indulgence whether you’re visiting for business or pleasure. The Smyth, A Thompson Hotel in New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood, delivers in every way: it’s swanky and upscale, adjoining to a restaurant helmed by James Beard award-winning chef,Andrew Carmellini and has all the feels you’d expect from the artsy neighborhood. Inspired by the rich history and vibrant culture of Tribeca, Smyth aims to be a sanctuary of comfort and familiarity, with highly curated, residential-style gathering spaces that include a living room, nighttime bar and private event dining room and meeting space.

You’re well traveled and you like luxury accommodations, but you haven’t quite reached the point in your career where you’re ready to spring for luxury prices, right? WestHouse Hotel New York is the solution to your travel woes. A sophisticated boutique property among luxury hotels in New York City, WestHouse Hotel New York aims, and succeeds, at being your house away from home. Walkable from Central Park but a respectable distance from the chaos of Times Square, WestHouse Hotel New York evokes the feeling of a private club, with its newest feature, The Terrace, boasting a kitchen and open dining room, private dining room, lounge and alfresco terrace. While the entire property offers chic design, inviting creature comforts, and of course, the coveted outdoor real estate, the amenities at WestHouse are reserved for guests only, lending a truly unique and completely private vibe to the art deco inspired space. One of the most unique perks for guests staying at the WestHouse is its generous array of services and curated amenities included in the daily Residents’ Fee ($35). Residents can enjoy a daily European-style breakfast, afternoon tea, hors d’oeuvres (think: unlimited wine, cheese and charcuterie), evening canapés, beverages (alcoholic & non-alcoholic), and Barista crafted coffees, WiFi and local calls, 24-hour […]

Since today we all “sprang ahead” and lost an hour in the day, I somehow found myself short on time. It seems that the hour I lost is the hour I would have gone to the gym, done my laundry, cooked dinner and written this post. Please enjoy this photo journal of my weekend slash cop-out post brought to you by daylight savings time. On Saturday Jessica visited the city and we used her visit as an excuse to take a self-guided eating tour de Manhattan, which as any should, began with cupcakes. Magnolia Bakery My favorite part of Magnolia, aside from the pound of confectioner’s sugar frosting that they heap onto each perfect cupcake, is the decor – old-fashioned and “shabby chic” with frilly, feminine curtains and artisan cakestands and platters displayed in the windows. Amid mile-high red velvet cakes, bakery racks full of cheesecake bars and chocolate tortes, jars full of freshly-baked cookies, it was clear from the line out the door and the small storefront full to capacity that the crowd comes for the cupcakes. They were almost too pretty to eat. But we managed. Eleni’s After Magnolia, we stopped by Eleni’s in Chelsea Market, where I […]
