Soft, chewy chocolate chip cookies are made twice as sweet by using two different types of chocolate: semisweet chocolate chips and milk chocolate chips. My friend Kelley talks a lot about “the five love languages” and how different people express heartfelt commitment in different ways. For example, some people demonstrate love through praise and affection, others through giving gifts. There’s a lot more to it than that, and having not read the book or studies, I can’t tell you definitively what that means, but I do know without question that one of my love languages is food. Cooking and baking for people is one of the ways I like to express affection and show people I care about them. In February, love is always in the air, and these chocolate chip cookies are sure to get you some love and appreciation in return, whether you’re giving them to a significant other or to your coworkers. This year, whether you’re feeling a little more romance in the air than usual or if you need a boost to get into the spirit, you can never go wrong with a Nicholas Sparks movie. On February 5, the new Nicholas Sparks movie, The Choice, hits theaters. As with most […]

Even before pumpkin spice anything became a cult favorite on the Internet, I’ve been obsessed with all things pumpkin: pumpkin bread, pumpkin bread pudding, pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin chili, pumpkin ice cream. See also, 50 Pumpkin Recipes by Food Bloggers. I’ve made my point. Something that has long since frustrated me about pumpkin bread recipes is that a lot of the recipes out there make two loaves of bread. And you know what? No matter how much you love pumpkin bread, there are times when two loaves of pumpkin bread is too much. With the help of noosa yoghurt (with an h!), I made a seriously delicious pumpkin bread with lots of fall flavor and wholesome ingredients. First, let’s talk about noosa yoghurt. With a combination of sweet and tart taste plus a thick, velvety texture, the authentic family recipe and is all-natural, gluten-free, probiotic, and made with whole milk. It’s available in pretty much every flavor you could possibly imagine and each tub is sweetened with honey and contains real fruit puree. One of the things I love about noosa yoghurt is that each variety has its own unique purpose. For example, the coconut variety, which tastes like ice cream, is for licking the container clean. The tart […]

‘Tis the season where everyone loses their mind over the pumpkin spice latte, but there’s more where that came from — and we’re not just talking about pumpkin pie. There are plenty of uses for the bright orange vegetable and they’re popping up everywhere from festive appetizers to delicious desserts. Read on for some of the best ways to cook and bake with pumpkin for every occasion. 1. Chocolate Pumpkin Spice Marble Cake: This simple egg-free cake is the perfect way to celebrate your love for pumpkin and chocolate, with ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry (via Nerdy Mama). 2. Lightened-Up Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins: Pumpkin, chocolate and only 144 calories. That is, if you can manage not to eat all of them (via Quarter Life (Crisis) Cuisine). 3. Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Oat Bars: Pumpkin and chocolate chip might sound decadent, but it can be healthy, too. Just add oats for these tasty bars that work for dessert, a snack or, in my book, an illicit breakfast (via Greens & Chocolate). 4. Pumpkin Pancakes with Bourbon Maple Syrup: Looking for an excuse to break out the bourbon before noon? Well, make maple syrup (via Love and Confections). 5. Pumpkin Pie […]

I have a mild obsession with scones. Though not nearly as crave-able as cookies and admittedly easier to step away from than cake, scones are a much under sung baked good. If you like the occasional sweet treat – one that you can eat morning, noon, or night, then you’ll want to focus here. They’re even a hit when you over bake them a little bit. Ahem. Scones are traditional cooked pastries that are simple and easy to make, and delicious to eat. Cherry and lime are a fun combination because cherries are so reminiscent of summer, especially in the Midwest where Michigan cherries are just a stone’s throw away. Limes are one of those things that most people have in their fridge, even people who rarely turn their ovens on because hello, Corona. If your experience with scones is limited to the ones that you press your face up to the bakery case at Starbucks to drool over before the barista quietly asks you to leave, you’ll love how simple this recipe is to make and how impressed people will look when you say you’ve made scones.

Three of my favorite things in the world are cookies, dinner parties and kitchen appliances…and not in that order. I especially love it when all three things merge: using kitchen appliances to bake cookies for a dinner party. Recently I was contacted by Del Webb, a home building company that has partnered with KitchenAid to encourage philanthropy and community this summer with 1,000 Cooks for the Cure, which challenges America to host 1,000 dinner parties to raise money for breast cancer research and community outreach programs. The annual event has raised nearly $8 million since 2001 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. I’m all about supporting good causes and this one is no different. Giveaway – NOW CLOSED To help you do more baking for dinner parties (everybody does that, right?) and to support the 1,000 Cooks for a Cure program, I’m giving away your choice of one KitchenAid Seven Speed Hand Mixer ($79.99) OR one KitchenAid 5-Speed Artisan Series Blender ($129.99). The Rules: Leave a comment here that answers the following questions: what is the first thing you’ll make with the blender OR hand mixer if you win? Anonymous comments: leave your email address in the comment field […]
