Let’s all just say it together. Wow. I know my photos don’t do these glorious little orbs of chocolate-chip cookie dough dipped in semi-sweet dark chocolate but trust me when I tell you that you need to make these. If you aren’t a big cook or baker, well, even you have no excuse because you won’t have to open your oven to make them. When I saw them on Love and Olive Oil I knew that I had no choice but to buy the ingredients the next day, because, well. I love anything chocolate chip and I love eating cookie dough. Yes, I sure did just admit that on public forum. Now, does anyone want to venture to guess why I don’t have a boyfriend? The cookie dough itself is egg-free and potentially dairy free. If you want to get all vegan (I’m looking at you, Rachel) you can find dairy-free chocolate chips to use in the truffles and as coating. I used store-brand miniature chocolate chips but had Ghirardelli semisweet chocolate chips, which I melted and used for dipping. I ate a few too. I’m not ashamed.

When I was in college there was a student in several of my creative writing classes who was, well, eccentric. Among several oddities that I won’t bother to list, he wore a Civil-War style confederate uniform jacket whenever he had writers block. You know what? Call me immature, but I mocked him with my friends because, well, it was funny. But let me tell you, I wish I had one of those jackets right now because for some reason, whenever I sit down at my computer I can’t make my fingers dance across the keys to produce words, but rather I start searching for the Facebook photo album of a friend I haven’t talked to in ten years, or I automatically open my Google reader for the tenth time in an hour to see what Lisa and Angie have shared today. While I can blame my writers block for my lack of posting, there is also that issue of finding time to blog. I’m a believer that no matter how busy we are, we can usually make time to do the things we want to do and despite what has been a pretty packed schedule since I moved to Chicago, […]

Live from Black Friday, I’ve interrupted my previously scheduled “ohmigod-Thanksgiving-dinner-was-amazing-and-I’m-never-eating-again” post for a brief serenade to my own version of the Iced Oatmeal Applesauce Cookies that I made earlier this week. Before I went home for the week I wanted to whip up some sort of fall-flavored baked good that I’d been itching to make for awhile, but avoided since I live alone and need to plan my baking strategically so I don’t wind up coming home from happy hour to be greeted by a dozen homemade chocolate chip cookies. I figured that the day before I headed off to see my family would be a good time to give my oven some exercise. This cookies are thin but chewy, full of fall flavors and goodness like oatmeal, golden raisins and applesauce. I skipped the maple frosting that the recipe initially called for in favor of a simpler cookie.

Early Friday morning, I was looking for a fast cookie recipe that I could bake to bring to my mom’s this weekend (we had a long car trip planned and she was doing the driving; it was the least I could do to bring snacks). When I browsed through the cabinets for some inspiration and found a full jar of peanut butter begging to be used…which meant I needed a recipe for easy peanut butter cookies. When I want to find a quick, classic cookie recipe, I usually head over to Martha Stewart Living. I find that while Martha’s chickens, pastas and roasts are usually advanced, complex, and require a kitchen full of her proprietary appliances, utensils and serveware, her cake and cookie recipes are often very simple (my motto is: the fewer the ingredients, the better the recipe. Exceptions do apply). I’m not a peanut butter lover. I keep it in the house because it’s a good staple and you never know when you’re going to get that fifth grade flashback and NEED a PB&J – STAT. But peanut butter cookies are A-OK with me. Not my favorite, but that was OK. They made my apartment smell fantastic for […]
