Spiced Apple Pie in a Jar

Ingredients
  • Pie Crust
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅔ cup shortening
  • 4­-5 tablespoons cold water
  • Apple Filling
  • 6 medium Granny Smith apples
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • ¼ cup apple brandy
  • ¾ cup dark brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch salt
  • Butterscotch Sauce
  • 6.5 ounces heavy cream
  • 5.6 ounces light brown sugar
  • 3 ounces butter
Instructions
  1. Pie Crust
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Meanwhile, mix all dry ingredients in food processor and then cut in butter. Add water and mix until just comes together
  3. Roll pastry out on a floured surface and cut half in. Circle disks for top, using a cookie cutter or the edge of a juice glass. Roll half in one big sheet for bottom pieces
  4. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Bake for 10­-15 min, or until golden brown.
  5. Apple Filling
  6. Combine all ingredients in sauce an and cook until apples are tender. Drain juice and discard. Set aside.
  7. Butterscotch Sauce
  8. Combine all ingredients and cook untili sugar is disolved and sauce thickens. Set aside.
  9. Assemble Pies
  10. Break up pie crust sheet, put a few pieces to cover bottom of jar in first
  11. Toss about a cup of apples in the butterscotch sauce and put into jar
  12. Add a circle cut of pie crust. Top with a la mode, if desired.
