Even before pumpkin spice anything became a cult favorite on the Internet, I’ve been obsessed with all things pumpkin: pumpkin bread, pumpkin bread pudding, pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin chili, pumpkin ice cream. See also, 50 Pumpkin Recipes by Food Bloggers. I’ve made my point. Something that has long since frustrated me about pumpkin bread recipes is that a lot of the recipes out there make two loaves of bread. And you know what? No matter how much you love pumpkin bread, there are times when two loaves of pumpkin bread is too much. With the help of noosa yoghurt (with an h!), I made a seriously delicious pumpkin bread with lots of fall flavor and wholesome ingredients. First, let’s talk about noosa yoghurt. With a combination of sweet and tart taste plus a thick, velvety texture, the authentic family recipe and is all-natural, gluten-free, probiotic, and made with whole milk. It’s available in pretty much every flavor you could possibly imagine and each tub is sweetened with honey and contains real fruit puree. One of the things I love about noosa yoghurt is that each variety has its own unique purpose. For example, the coconut variety, which tastes like ice cream, is for licking the container clean.

You have a party to go to and you’d really like to bring your hostess a gift but you don’t want to spend money (admit it). That’s where miniature quick breads come in. You need a gift for that friend who has everything. You have a baking itch Tuesday afternoon but you’d rather save your cake-and-cookie calories for Saturday night. Again, time to turn on the oven. In any event, miniature quick breads are a great solution when you need a quick gift or want to send your guests home with an edible treat after your next get-together. One of these miniature loaves is the perfect size to cut a slice of for a snack or breakfast. You can present them wrapped in foil or plastic wrap but a much nicer way to deliver these goods is to bake them in paper loaf pans. Wrap them in cellophane and you’re good to go. You can even bake a batch of these and stash half in the freezer so you’re never without a homemade snack on hand.

It’s pumpkin season. Pumpkin recipes all over the Internet, pumpkins growing in fields at the farm, pumpkins on display at the grocery store and pumpkins as table decorations. You get the idea. I think you know where this is going, right? Some of my favorite recipes are pumpkin-packed and what better a time of year to use the canned pumpkin that I have been hoarding from my neighborhood grocery store? Yes, yes. Most of my recipes utilize canned vs. fresh pumpkin. You see, pumpkin carving is a messy sport. I am my own housekeeper. That’s all there is to it. So, without further ado, if you did what I did and ordered a case of canned pumpkin from Amazon before it was available in your local supermarket, you should make each and every one of these recipes, like I probably will. Spicy Pepitas If you do take the plunge and opt for fresh pumpkin this year, make the most of it and scoop the seeds for a salty and savory snack. A little spice goes a long way and these are great on their own or as an addition to salads or soups. Pumpkin Cheesecake Pie with Gingersnap Crust […]

Since I began blogging I learned that if there is one thing that die-hard home cooks love, it’s seasonal food. While I appreciate pumpkin bread in October, cranberry sauce in December and strawberry sangria in June, their arrival at the farmer’s market or grocery store means more than just having a new item on the shelf: it symbolizes a new season. This week, in lieu of my regular worknight dinner post, I’m kicking off an entire week to my favorite Fall ingredient: pumpkin. Pumpkin pie might be reminiscent of Thanksgiving, but there are plenty of ways to enjoy pumpkin in pumpkin chocolate chip squares, pumpkin scones and even in spinach pumpkin penne, well before Turkey Day. Even though you can buy canned pumpkin year round, it just seems, well, sacrilegious to have it in July. And I’m not even religious at all. I adapted this recipe from the The Good Home Cookbook (which you can purchase from my Amazon store and a portion of the proceeds help support In Good Taste). The recipe called for canned pumpkin puree (not to be confused with pumpkin pie filling) and although high in sugar, the fat content is reasonable with canola oil used instead […]

When I was in first grade my class had a “Thanksgiving” celebration in class. Someone brought stuffing, someone brought mashed potatoes and someone brought sliced deli turkey breast for sandwiches. My big contribution was cranberry bread, my earliest baking endeavor and my first addition to the Thanksgiving menu in my house. Every year, I made cranberry bread for Thankgiving, until college, when I started experimenting with recipes like Cranberry Orange Bread (not my exact recipe, but very close) and Harvest Pumpkin Apple Bread. Since Thanksgiving is still months away and I had a can of pumpkin puree sitting in my cabinet mocking me, I decided to try a recipe for Pumpkin Cranberry Bars. They turned out perfect – very moist, thanks to a little extra pumpkin that I added. Since I didn’t have any pumpkin pie spice in the house, I experimented with a little extra nutmeg and freshly ground cinnamon to compensate. I also added about 1/3 cup more cranberries than the recipe called for. I figured, it couldn’t hurt.
