Last week I posted a recipe for Pork Tenderloin with White Wine Dijon Sauce and Apples. Well, let me tell you, the recipe is nothing without a side of Martha’s very own baby spinach with warm olive oil and walnuts. Leafy green vegetables tends to get ignored around Thanksgiving. Even when served, they tend to get buried underneath goodness like butternut squash and cheddar cheese. So, in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, if you know you’re planning to overindulge on carb-heavy side dishes like whole wheat dinner rolls and cornbread stuffing, pile on the veggies in the days preceding the holiday. I could eat spinach at every meal: in omelets, in salads, in pasta sauce. If you’re not a spinach fan like I am, you can still find colorful, nutritious vegetable side dishes to eat before (or even after!)

Live from Black Friday, I’ve interrupted my previously scheduled “ohmigod-Thanksgiving-dinner-was-amazing-and-I’m-never-eating-again” post for a brief serenade to my own version of the Iced Oatmeal Applesauce Cookies that I made earlier this week. Before I went home for the week I wanted to whip up some sort of fall-flavored baked good that I’d been itching to make for awhile, but avoided since I live alone and need to plan my baking strategically so I don’t wind up coming home from happy hour to be greeted by a dozen homemade chocolate chip cookies. I figured that the day before I headed off to see my family would be a good time to give my oven some exercise. This cookies are thin but chewy, full of fall flavors and goodness like oatmeal, golden raisins and applesauce. I skipped the maple frosting that the recipe initially called for in favor of a simpler cookie.

Since I raved enough about Martha Stewart yesterday, I thought I’d let some pictures tell the story of my morning in the studio audience full of bloggers at The Martha Stewart Show today. Well, I won’t let the pictures tell the WHOLE story We were on line by 8AM waiting on line with bloggers from Baltimore, Boston and Philadelphia and after an enthusiastic welcome from Joey Kola, the “warm-up guy” (apparently we were his best looking audience ever. I am sure he doesn’t just say that to everybody), we headed into the (FREEZING COLD) studio where we filed into our seats and waited for Martha. Throughout the show, we heard from a few great bloggers – even Martha talked about the blog that she maintains with her sister and manager. Martha even gives a full recap of the blogging show on her latest post. The whole experience was fabulous, but my favorite part of being at the blogging show was experiencing the same giddy, butterflies-in-my-stomach-but-in-a-good-way feeling that I had the entire time I was at BlogHer this summer. Before I plunge into full-fledged geekery, let me first say that when I started blogging back in May, it was because I […]

Tomorrow, I’ll be sitting in the audience of the Martha Stewart Blogging Show . I won’t be blogging the show live, because I have a very temperamental laptop. But I’ll be tweeting. Check me out @mariscalla)! Anyway. I’ll be in the audience along with some other awesome bloggers , as well as my mom, who isn’t a blogger but she’s on Facebook and I think that’s pretty impressive, so I’m bringing her. I thought I’d use my Martha-Show Eve as a good excuse to pay a tribute to the legend herself. Martha Stewart is more than just a household name. I saw her E! True Hollywood story a few years ago and I was instantly hooked. Not in a creepy way. Just in a, omg-her-kitchen-must be-amazing and a I-hope-I-look-that-good-when-I’m-her-age way. I’m just like any other fan. I read her blog, I subscribe to Everyday Food in the mail, and I was moderately devastated when Blueprint folded (I didn’t think the fashion advice was “gilded.” Whatever). So while Martha has inspired me to make craft or two, we can all guess that I spend most of my time browsing Martha’s recipes. Here is one of my favorite recipes from Martha past: Martha’s Spaghetti […]
