Spiked strawberry rosé lemonade is a refreshing cocktail to accompany brunch, patio parties or as a casual dinner party apertíf all summer long. Rosé season has been in full swing for a few months now and I make no secret of the fact that the much-beloved “summer water” is not my beverage of choice during the months of June, July and August. Although there are plenty of rosé wines to drink during patio season, I’ve always preferred Sauvignon Blanc or an occasional Oregon Pinot Gris. That is, until I discovered rosé lemonade. Spiked rosé lemonade, to be more specific. In Chicago we have a lovely chain of local markets called Foxtrot Delivery Market. Think: your cutest local organic grocery + coffee bar + gift shop tied nicely together with an app that allows you to order anything for delivery in an hour or less. Now, there are a lot of delivery apps that claim one hour or less service, but they often lie. Foxtrot is pretty punctual and perfect for entertaining needs that extend beyond your local Aldi or Trader Joe’s (we live above an Aldi but there are certain things you just won’t find there and gourmet cheese and artisan […]

The Moscow Mule is a refreshing vodka-based cocktail with spicy ginger beer and fresh lime juice. This recipe is quick, easy, classic, and can be customized by adding your favorite muddled fruit. As much as I enjoy going out for cocktails with friends or having a little happy hour at home with Brad, I’m quite picky when it comes to cocktails. I don’t like drinks that are full of sugar and even craft cocktails made with simple ingredients tend to be too sweet for me. The only exception for me, is the Moscow Mule. Made with spicy ginger beer and fresh, tart lemon juice, the drink is fizzy and tangy, with a hint of sweetness and spice. Served in an iconic copper mug, your beverage stays cold, so you don’t feel like you have to drink it fast before it gets too watered down. The best part about making one at home is that it only has four ingredients and doesn’t require a shaker or blender: just pour, stir, sip and enjoy! Save Print Best Moscow Mule Author: Maris Callahan Prep time: 5 mins Total time: 5 mins Serves: 2 beverages Ingredients 4 ounces vodka 8 ounces ginger beer 1 ounce fresh lime juice […]

After eight years of blogging, these strawberry basil martinis are somehow first making their way online for the first time. Strawberries, basil, simple syrup and vodka combine for a perfectly balanced summer cocktail. In 2008, somewhere in the neighborhood of mid-May (I don’t know the exact date because really, this is a blog, not a human person), I created In Good Taste. At first I called it ‘My Glamorous Life” because my friend and former boss Ann used to say “isn’t life glamorous?” whenever I was tasked with something ridiculous at work, like collating photocopies for a press kit or reprinting a new business presentation seven times until the binder holes were spaced evenly. I thought I would write about my everyday musings, because to be frank, I think I’m pretty funny. Although good friends have told me that I’m at my funniest when I’m being bitchy, but we can analyze that another time. At the time I started my blog I was living outside of New York City, where ridiculous shit happens in the street every single day and I thought I would have witty things to say about the drudgery of online dating and working at an entry-level public relations […]

A blend of muddled blackberries, lime, vodka, and ginger beer create the perfect Blackberry Ginger Moscow Mule, a refreshing springtime cocktail. When I’m out with friends or entertaining at home, wine is generally my beverage of choice. Light reds like Pinot Noir, a dry, crisp Sauvignon Blanc in the summer or of course, anything sparkling, the bubblier the better. Though martinis and mixed drinks are a fun departure from wine, they’re generally full of sugar and calories that make your teeth and head hurt. Entertaining at home, though? That’s a different story. That’s when you can pick the ingredients you like, in the quantities you like, and mix them with the spirits that you like. For me, that means spicy ginger, tart fruit and zesty citrus for Moscow Mules. These Blackberry Moscow Mules are a great way to usher in spring with something refreshing to sip…without the accompanying sugar hangover. g The first time I had a Moscow Mule, I was visiting friends outside of Columbus, Ohio. We went to The Pearl, a restaurant and oyster bar known for its Moscow Mules. Usually served in cold copper mugs, the Moscow Mule is made with three simple ingredients: ginger beer, available at most grocery and […]

If it were up to me, National Coffee Day would be every day. I celebrate it every morning around eight o’clock while checking emails and getting organized for the day ahead. While I’m a morning coffee drinker, I know there are people out there who finish an evening meal with coffee. If it’s a meal at home for a special occasion, why not make your digestif a little stronger? Why not dabble in the Cafe Royal? When it comes to cocktails, coffee lends itself well to creativity and tastes great with most spirits, from Chartreuse to sherry. Like most spiked coffee drinks, this Cafe Royal is simple and needs only one spirit to complement fresh-brewed, black coffee. We used Patron XO Cafe, which is blend of tequila and coffee essence that lacks the sweetness of most coffee liqueurs. Save Print Café Royal Cocktail Author: Maris Callahan Recipe type: Things to Drink Prep time: 5 mins Total time: 5 mins Serves: 1 Ingredients 1½ oz Patron XO Cafe 1 cup strong brewed coffee Freshly whipped cream Cocoa powder Instructions In a heated coffee mug add Patrón XO Café. Fill to within 1 inch with coffee. Top with freshly whipped cream and dust with cocoa powder (optional). 3.2.2310
